About me

Born in Lausanne in 1998, I graduated in July 2023 with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from HEAD - Geneva in the painting department, and am currently pursuing a Master Fine Arts at ZHDK - Zürich where I also co-curate the EGG exhibition space.

My practice oscillates between very personal subjects related to familial history,questions of cultural and domestic heritage, and aesthetics of mass-produced media, generic images that can be considered as overseen and overconsumed (i.e. postcards, screensavers, and decorative motifs). This takes place alongside an engagement with the history and categories of Painting, and questions pertaining to the medium. Questions of atitude, sensitivity, and materiality.

The paintings evoke feelings of nostalgia, absence, melancholy and contemplation.I believe painting demands engagement, atention and care, which counterracts the escapist tendencies that are a result of nostalgia. I see nostalgia as a dangerous sentimental mechanism, that aestheticizes stagnation and decay, and plays a role in reinforcing hegemonic standards by recycling trends and focusing on the past. I see painting as an anchor in the middle of the media flow and the cacophony of daily life, of feelings anxiety, memory and nostalgia. It is an act of composure that allows a simultaneous construction and deconstruction of the emotional load of my subjects. My practice is sequential, and finds its roots in my own visual heritage, between Swiss landscapes and Lebanese ornamental traditions.
